Client Context
Customer Background
A U.S.-based independent brand specializing in workshop tools and tool storage approached us to develop a new magnetic tool mat in six color options.
The original concept featured five high-strength magnetic strips and full-color branding across the mat. The customer required strong magnetic holding power and a firm, durable PVC construction suitable for demanding workshop and vehicle-repair environments.
Engineering Response
Challenges & Solutions
The main challenge was integrating powerful magnets without leaving exposed black magnetic components that would disrupt the branded design. We embedded the magnets inside the PVC body to create a cleaner, one-piece construction. To balance performance and cost following increases in raw-material prices, the magnetic layout was optimized from five strips to three while maintaining the required holding performance.
During sampling, our production team adjusted the PVC hardness and repeatedly tested both the material and magnetic strength. When the first sample showed a slight difference in one of the background colors, we recalibrated the artwork specifically for industrial UV printing and produced a closer color match.
The revised sample met the customer’s expectations and led to an order for 10,000 kosov.
